If you were to ask yourself “What Jeff Buckley might have been. If he wanted U2’s big sounding ambience?” the best answer is to just listen to As Tall As Lions. The biggest difficulty is trying to classify the band into a certain genre as more times than often they tend to easily transcend them. They offer the same sensibility that can be found in both Jeff Buckley and Joseph Arthur, but at the same time are able to draw a more wide-ranging audience with their lush ambient pop rhythms and leads.

Taperjean offers their 2nd full-length self-titled release. It is an album that comprises many of their trademark sounds (ambient guitars, piercing piano melodies, sublime sounding falsetto’s) into a neat little package. It is what we can only best describe as “walking through a dark emotional tunnel, but knowing there is always light at the end”.

For those lucky enough to see the band live, you’ll no doubt agree that Benny B ’s emotionally charged vocally delivery is one of the best there is in sydney’s up and coming live music scene. Which is no surprise considering they were awarded with blunt magazine’s “top-artists to watch” late last year – an award that we are pretty damn proud of!

we are excited to offer you guys fifty sixx’s most recent release. Entitled “Prescriptions For the Rich”, it is a collection of heart-pumping, thought-provoking songs guarenteed to make you feel something strong. A re-release has been planned and offers a live video recording of the band.

Fan favourites of ours for what may seem ages… ever since we first heard of their sultry indie/pop-rock sounds blasting from the car stereo as we made the great ocean drive up the coast we just fell in love. We still argue that “hi, everything’s great” is the best record to put on to ease the split from that special guy/girl/whatever.

Here at TJR we offer their most recent self-titled offering. “Limbeck” sees them going back to their early production roots with famed producer Ed Rose (get-up kids) and producing a feel-good album about the perils of endless touring, being broke, and the great american way of life... listen and feel good about yourself!

The best way to describe Smithtown would be to say they have an air of sincere cockyness around them (your neighbourhood friendly rockers). And unlike the rising trend of “ballsy-rock” (or cock-rock as Bernard fanning likes to call it) that seems to be rising in Australia’s live music scene, Smithtown would rather carve their own rising path. Sticking to a tried and true song-writing method of using pop-infused melodies with rock n roll hooks, Smithtown realise the value of getting your foot tapping and body moving than being seen as a band that only loves to “smash a few rums” (even though they can and do).

Not the baddest boys in rock, but is that necessarily a bad thing? They make rock fun again - and isn’t that what it’s really all about?
